This course defines a range of project cost and performance improvements achievable by the design-build approach to steel joist and metal deck design.
After taking this course, you should know the following:
- Recognize why the design-build approach fosters improvements in steel joist and metal decking design.
- Know the range of overt and covert costs to a design-build project as related to the steel joist and steel deck phase of building design.
- Know the fundamentals of engineering for total-project cost control, from tonnage reduction to a related chain reaction of costs.
- Know the current range of steel construction materials and methods, including special profile joists, ductile tensile yielding joists, and building-information modeling (BIM) as related to the structural steel design process.
